I am currently sitting in a French coffee shop overlooking a beautiful lake, and couldn’t help but feel a coffee breakdown was needed.
Its no secret to those close to me that a cup of joe is on my daily menu. There are so many articles on whether coffee is an advantage or disadvantage which can be extremely confusing when one is trying to be on a health kick. I recently travelled to Costa Rica for work and took a half day to go to a coffee tasting. This was such a unique experience I highly recommend to everyone who is a coffee lover! Few things I learned in Costa Rica:
- Coffee is the second most traded commodity in the world second to oil.
- Light roast coffee actually has more caffeine than dark roast coffee.
- Coffee was allegedly discovered by a young goat herder named Kaldi in the 9th-century. He noticed his goats acting strange when they ate the cherries from the coffee tree so he tried it for himself.
Throughout the day it is so important to keep your metabolism going, coffee is one of the natural things we can do this with! What can make coffee unhealthy is what we add to it. Starbucks and other chains have so much variety from Lattes to Mocha Frappaucinos that have coffee as a base, adding milk, sugar, creams and syrups. Although it is okay to indulge once in a while, it is important to understand what you are adding can also add pounds. Stevia is hands down the best sugar to add to anything you would like to sweeten. It may be overboard, but I always have a few packets in my purse after researching the chemicals effecting digestion in other brands.
Instead of all the creams, syrups, etc, try these few things to sweeten your coffee, let me know what you think:
-Cinnamon (Add as desired, recommend 1-11/2 Teaspoons)
-1 Teaspoon honey
-2 Teaspoons of Vanilla Almond milk + 1 packet of Stevia
-Cocoa Mix (Sugar free)
